Fantasy Westward Journey Mobile
Launched by NetEase in 2015, this stylized turn-based mobile game inherits the legacy of its PC predecessor and swiftly ascended to the top of China's best-selling mobile charts.
Fantasy Westward Journey Mobile is a Q-version 2D turn-based MMORPG launched by NetEase, based on the PC game of the same name. Development began in November 2013, with the first wipe-test starting on January 23, 2015. The iOS version launched on March 26, followed by a full platform open beta on March 30. On its release day, the game climbed to the top of the iOS Free and Top Grossing charts. Concurrent users surpassed 1.5 million within April and reached 2 million by May, with registered users hitting 20 million within two months, placing it among the top four worldwide in revenue. The mobile version fully ports core systems from the PC game, including the Sects, the Twelve Sects (expanded later), pet summons, underground palaces, guilds, and PVP arenas, while optimizing convenience features for mobile, such as AFK mode, auto-battle, team matchmaking, and cross-server competition. The game maintains the original's Q-version art style and Journey to the West worldview, where players join the quest-themed storyline as characters from the Immortal, Human, or Demon races. Its business model retains a hybrid of time-cards and item sales, making it one of the most representative PC-to-mobile adaptations during the 2015 explosion of the Chinese mobile game market. It stands as one of the highest-grossing mobile MMORPGs in China during the late 2010s and continues to set records for long-term mobile operations.
